How to Get the Ghana Card Online| For Ghanaians, Ecowas Citizens, and Expatriates

The Ghana Card is a national identity card that is issued by the National Identification Authority (NIA) to citizens and permanent residents of Ghana. The Ghana Card contains biometric data such as fingerprints, iris scans, facial recognition, and personal information such as name, date of birth, place of birth, address, etc.

The Ghana Card also has a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that is unique to each cardholder. The PIN consists of 13 digits that start with either GHA or P. For example: GHA-123456789-1 or P0012345678.

The PIN on the Ghana Card is now being used as the TIN for individual taxpayers in Ghana from April 1, 2021.

What are the requirements for getting a Ghana Card?

To get a Ghana Card, you need to bring along any of the following documents as proof of identity:

– Birth certificate

– Valid passport

– Certificate of acquired citizenship

If you do not have any of these documents, you can still register for your Ghana Card if you have any two of the following persons to vouch for you:

– A relative who has already registered and has been issued with the Ghana Card

– A prominent member of your community such as chief, religious leader, teacher etc.

– Two other persons who have already registered and have been issued with the Ghana Card

How soon do I have to get a Ghana card?

You should get your Ghana Card as soon as possible if you are an individual taxpayer or a potential taxpayer in Ghana. This is because from April 1, 2021, the Ghana Card PIN has replaced the TIN issued by GRA to Individual Taxpayers. This means that you will need your Ghana Card PIN to do any tax-related transactions or other legal transactions that require the use of your TIN.

I am an expatriate. Do I need a Ghana card?

If you are an expatriate or a non-resident who is liable to pay tax in Ghana, you also need to get a Ghana Card and use the PIN as your TIN from April 1, 2021. You can register for your Ghana Card at any NIA registration centre with your valid passport and visa or residence permit as proof of identity.

How do I find my Ghana Card number?

Your Ghana card number is the same as your Ghana card PIN. It is a 13-digit alphanumeric code that starts with the letters GHA and ends with a check digit. For example, GHA0012345678X. You can find your Ghana card number on your physical Ghana card or on any document that shows your Ghana card PIN, such as a tax clearance certificate, a withholding tax certificate, or a VAT invoice.
